Direct Bonded Copper (DBC) is a type of substrate material used in the manufacturing of electronic components such as power modules, high-frequency amplifiers and other semiconductor devices. DBC consists of a ceramic layer (typically Al2O3 or AlN) bonded to a copper layer using a high-temperature process.


The ceramic layer provides electrical insulation and thermal conductivity, while the copper layer provides a low-resistance path for current flow and efficient heat dissipation. The bonding process creates a strong interface between the two layers, resulting in a high-performance substrate that can withstand high temperatures and thermal cycling without degrading.


DBC substrates can be customized for specific applications by varying the thickness of the ceramic and copper layers, as well as the size and placement of vias and other features. They are often used in high-power applications where efficient heat dissipation is critical, such as in automotive electronics, renewable energy systems, and industrial automation equipment.
